School Started

Yesterday was the first day of the new school year for the girls. They were both really excited to go back (they like school, they enjoy learning). We’re back to going to bed before the sun goes down, and waking up before the sun comes up. They get on the bus at 6:45 am! The freakin’ sun doesn’t even wake up that early…. They both had very good days though, and like their teachers, so, it should be a good year.

Pandora Closing Shop?

Apparently Pandora Radio is considering (or has already decided) to close up shop due to, yeah, you might have guessed it, corporate greed in all its glory. In a recent Washington Post article they give you all the gory details. Its mostly due to a doubling of the royalty fees that affect web streaming services (note that conventional radio does not pay these fees). Pandora recently also released an iPhone app, allowing iPhone users to tap into their stations via their phones (which, if I could afford an iPhone, would definitely be an app I would be utilizing). What’s more, a federal panel delivered the order to increase the fees. Ah, our government hard at work in bed with big business. Ain’t it grand!?

I listen to Pandora at least once a week (and usually more often), and have found tons of new music/musicians that I enjoy through listening to it, music I might not have discovered otherwise. I will endure pop-up ads, onsite ads, ad breaks between every couple songs, whatever….just to continue to have access to this online service.

But if Pandora falls, how long till all the other internet radio stations fold as well? The entertainment industry makes obscene amounts of money the way it is, it sickens me. I’m tired of the studios’ and record companies’ (really loud) bitching over loosing a bit of spare change over downloading or online radio. Y’know, maybe its time those CEOs and execs maybe had to downsize to one BMW, or a smaller yacht, or *gasp* a mansion with less rooms…. bleh! The sheer avarice of the Hollywood-set and all its related lackey companies just….ugh.

I’m stopping now before I get too pissed off thinking about it.

Photo Gallery Fun

I have been playing with the gallery plug-in I recently installed, it does all sorts of nifty things. I’ve uploaded almost 100 picture so far, check them out. I added the pictures I took at the Missouri State Fair this year. Morganne went down there to show her pigs, and she did fairly well with them. I was really proud of her (especially considering that the show started at 8 a.m. and didn’t end till around 4 p.m.).

Wordpress Upgrade

So I attempted to upgrade to WordPress 2.6 this afternoon. It did not go well would be a vast understatement. It totally and completely did not work 100%, screwed up my database, did not install at all, page full of nothing but php error messages. Total disaster. Which amazes me, because I have never had trouble making WordPress do exactly whatever I wanted it to do exactly when I wanted it to do it. Its got to be the easiest Blogging system around, and yet for some reason, it REFUSED to install correctly. I tried about 5 times, using different databses, different users, passwords, redownloaded the zip file, everything - still nada.

So I reverted to 2.1 for now. It really made me crabby.
