Crosslisted (Posted 8/7/2008)
This fanlisting has been crosslisted into the Book/Movie Characters category at the Fanlistings Dot Org, and so now covers the appearance of Red Sonja in both films and novels (the 1985 version with Brigette Nelson).
Rose McGowan, who starred in both Charmed & Grindhouse, has signed on to play the iconic comic book/movie/novel heroine in the film, which is to be produced by fiancé Robert Rodriguez and directed by Douglas Aarniokoski (Highland: Endgame). The film is aiming for a 2010 release.
The new Red Sonja film is an origin story that will focus on the comic book character created by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith in 1973. The comic book Red Sonja is a contemporary of Conan, while Robert E. Howard’s Red Sonya (note the one-letter spelling difference) hailed from 16th century France.
This will be the second Red Sonja film. The first was released in 1985 and starred Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Earlier this year Paradox Entertainment and Red Sonja LLC settled their legal dispute over the character, thus clearing the way for another film starring the comics-based Red Sonja.
Following the shocking pages of Red Sonja #34, bold new direction beings here from writer Brian (Ms. Marvel) Reed and Walter (SAVAGE TALES) Geovani!

Inspired by the Rare Retailer Incentive cover for Red Sonja #13, this brand-new 7 3/4″ Red Sonja Statue has brought the art of Joseph Michael Linsner to life.
Joe’s second drawing of Red Sonja for the Dynamite comic book series is also the rarest, and this statue is sure to be in high demand as Tom and Joy Snyder have captured every detail of Linser’s art and the She-Devil with a Sword.
This statue will ship in August 07, and retails for around $75.
Comic Candy, the hugemoungous comic book image gallery and news site that I run (and also the site I upload all the images and other things found on this site to), has gotten into trouble this month for being a big pig.
It used too many resources for the hosting plan I was on and had to be moved to a semi-dedicated server (which has put me into a bit of sticker shock…). So, as much as I hate begging for money via the internet, I will in order to keep my various sites online. If you enjoy any of my sites, please consider a donation by paypal to them, no amount is too small, and every donation is greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance, and hopefully no one is too offended by my fundraising efforts.
